How will bringing our own device to school help us?

What is BYOD?
Bring Your Own Devices at times it is also called Bring Your Own Technology, BYOT

How would the technology be used at school?
Any technology would be used for the learning only. Many students are starting to bring personal technology devices to school - so we are allowing them to bring them. We expect the learning between home and school to be more seamless.

What happens to the students who don’t bring personal technology to school?
They can use the school owned devices. Students don’t all use technology every day, all day. They use it when it is the best tool for learning.

What would students use technology for?
For their learning, examples include; Writing, Mathletics, ePortfolio, google applications,
e.g. docs, student reflection, spelling city.

Is any technology suitable?
Not all devices are suitable - please check with Anne-Marie if you are unsure.

Are students going to spending all day on computers?
No. Technology will be used for learning, and when it is the best tool for that learning.

I think children need to be spending lunchtimes and playtimes running around not on technology
We agree- unless they are with a teacher, technology won’t be available.

Will the school be responsible for the safety of my child’s computer/iPad/iPod?
Students are responsible for the safety of their own device. Insurance will need to be undertaken by parents. We will provide a safe place for devices in the classrooms. Having a device clearly named and in a protective sleeve or bag will help minimize any damage.

Does my child have to share?
No, but they can if they choose to, and all care will be taken.

Online Safety of my child at school
We use an internet filtering called Watchdog and we are actively teaching digital citizenship in school. Students need to learn to protect themselves digitally.
